Joséphine Thomachot

Bow Maker

Following a risky but successful attempt at planing, in 2013, at my father’s place Stéphane Thomachot, I decided to pursue a career as a bow maker. I first learned the basics of the craft from him and then trained under Noel Burke in Ireland. I then had the opportunity to learn at the workshops of Emmanuel Carlier, Arthur Dubroca and Alexandre Aumont in Paris as well as Yung Chin in New York.

I also took part in several competitions such as the VSA, where I received a certificate of Merit in 2016 for a viola bow and in 2018 for a violin bow. In 2022 I participated in the Mittenwald international competition and was awarded a silver medal for my violin bow and a bronze medal for my cello bow.

Today I have established my own workshop in Romainville, just a stone’s throw away from Paris.
